FAQs

The journey begins in Sepilok and ends in Kota Kinabalu.

We recommend flying into Sandakan Airport (SDK) near Sepilok and departing from Kota Kinabalu International Airport (BKI) near Kota Kinabalu.

You can either get picked up at the airport or meet everyone at the first hotel on the day the journey begins if you choose to arrive earlier. From there, adventure in nature awaits!

On re:discover journeys, we like to keep groups small. This helps you better assimilate into the local communities you'll be visiting, and gives space for you to truly connect and get to know your fellow travel mates. Group size will vary but expect around 6 to 12 people plus your local guides and teachers.

You will be sharing with one or more of your co-travelers. Maybe your next BFF or TBFL (travel buddy for life)? Because we try to gather people with similar interests who are in the same place in life, we're convinced that you will find people to bond with on your trip, and one of the best ways is to share a room with them.

Malaysian Borneo is teeming with a rich variety of wildlife, offering incredible opportunities for wildlife enthusiasts and nature lovers. Here are some of the fascinating creatures you can encounter during your journey:

  1. Orangutans: Malaysian Borneo is one of the few places in the world where you can observe these incredible primates up close in their natural habitat. These intelligent and gentle creatures can be found in the lush rainforests, particularly in areas like Sepilok.
  2. Pygmy Elephants: The Kinabatangan River region is home to the endangered Bornean pygmy elephants, which are the smallest elephants in Asia. Spotting these majestic creatures as they traverse through the riverbanks is an unforgettable experience.
  3. Proboscis Monkeys: These unique monkeys are endemic to Borneo and known for their distinctive large noses and potbellies. They can often be seen leaping through the trees or lounging near rivers, providing delightful encounters for wildlife enthusiasts.
  4. Hornbills: Borneo is renowned for its impressive hornbill population, including the iconic Rhinoceros Hornbill. These large, colorful birds with their prominent bills are a sight to behold and are often found in the dense forests.
  5. Sun Bears: Though small in size, sun bears hold great significance in Malaysian Borneo's wildlife conservation efforts. These adorable creatures can be observed at sanctuaries and rehabilitation centers, providing an opportunity to learn about their conservation needs.
  6. Bornean Clouded Leopards: While elusive and rare to spot, Bornean clouded leopards inhabit the dense rainforests of Malaysian Borneo. With their beautiful coat patterns and mysterious nature, encountering these elusive felines is a remarkable experience.

These are just a few examples of the incredible wildlife that can be found in Malaysian Borneo. The region is also home to a wide range of primates, reptiles, amphibians, and bird species, making it a paradise for nature enthusiasts and wildlife lovers alike.

We recommend that you do! Either arrive early, stay longer or do both. It's impossible to do and see everything in 14 days – there's always more to do and to see. We've set the length of this journey so that you won't have to take off too much time from work, but if this is not a concern of yours, well, then it's almost an obligation to stay a bit longer to see what else Borneo and the surrounding region has to offer!

Did we not answer all of your questions? Not to worry – you can always ask! There are no stupid questions. Well, not a lot anyway. We're always happy to help – even if some questions might be silly to us, if we haven't answered them clearly by now, it's on us.

Plus, we love it when you get in touch!
